I’m a UK nurse who moved to America. In the UK we are taught to make a sling to slide under the penis to move and position it for any medical procedure. It is rather ridiculous because many males in the UK are 10 centimeters (4 inches). We are supposed to try to balance it on the sling so it doesn’t fall off. A sling is better suited to something much longer than only 4 inches.

Here in America the nurses don’t waste time making a sling. They simply grab a hold of the penis and move it where they wish to. I was surprised when I saw American nurses directly handle male patients. The first nurse I saw grab a penis, was when she was inserting a catheter. She simply grabbed it under the head and pulled it toward her to insert the catheter. She held it firmly by the shaft as she pushed the Foley in. It was very efficient and didn’t waste time.

The next one I saw, was when the nurse grabbed a penis and pushed it in the opening of a urinal bottle and told the male to urinate. He didn’t want to use the plastic urinal. She was tired of it and told him to stick his cock in there and urinate NOW! When he hesitated she grabbed it and shoved it in the opening and told him, NOW!. I was surprised that she called it a cock, but that’s what it is. I liked that she took charge and gave orders to the patient. I don’t know why he didn’t want to cooperate. Maybe he didn’t understand that urinals are marked in volume and nurses must chart the volume output on each patient.

Anyway in the UK nurses are supposed to go through this elaborate procedure to make and use a sling so they don’t touch the penis. Here in America they don’t waste time on such nonsense. They don’t hesitate to touch a penis. They just grab it. Some don’t even bother to wear gloves. I prefer the American way.
