I used to go for long walks in the rain at night. There’s a reason films have anything interesting or dramatic happen in the dark, cold rain. It’s beautiful. Of course, bad things can happen at any time.
During one walk, I saw a man roughing up someone who, at the time, looked like a man. It was a woman. It was raining hard, and her hood covered her face almost completely, and I didn’t hear a word. This was because the man had her mouth muffled as well.
The first time I said, “Hey, what’s going on?” The man yelled at me to mind my own business, and he continued straggling with the woman. I must’ve just snapped, as I remember grabbing the guy by the neck and slamming it onto the car he had the woman up against.
The woman pleaded with me not to hurt him too badly. I didn’t realize this until the third or fourth time I slammed his head into the hood of the car.
The man was practically out cold by the time I came out of it. I remember asking the woman why she cared about the huge piece of crap now taking a little nap.
They were a couple, and she mentioned she recently found out she was pregnant. The man clearly couldn’t handle this and lost his mind. I remember thinking these are the guys women strangely gravitate towards, and then it’s pity for poor me later on when the worst happens.
I believe I told her it wasn’t going to end well if this was his initial reaction to her being pregnant. I went back to the piece of crap and proceeded to slam his head back into the hood, where I thought it belonged. The woman was now hitting me with these little fist pumps on my back. I stopped and told her to walk away or run from this guy, as he was bad news.
Men abusing anyone, let alone women, is a trigger for me, but I would think it would be for anyone with any form of heart or balls. I have no idea what happened to either. I’m sure the man wound up in the emergency room, but it was necessary.
No charges happebed ad k was a stranger that came upon the mess that was that couple. I vanished into the night as we all continued to get soaked in that beautiful, honest rain that so many do not understand; it’s humbling, but bad things seem to often happen when it’s dark and wet.
